Wanaka is set to be exposed to millions of international viewers after featuring in an adventure tourism game show. The Travel Channel show, RV Rampage, follows five couples from Russia, South Africa, Thailand and United Kingdom, as they visit 10 New Zealand locations and face cultural, physical and mental challenges. The show, hosted by the World’s Greatest Motorcycle Rides presenter Henry Cole and Total Wipeout presenter Amanda Byram, would be broadcasted across a global

network of over 130 territories including UK, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific by mid-next year. It has a potential audience of 200 million. Last week filming took place in Wanaka. Mr Cole said he was glad to be back in town but wished he was here on a motorcycle and not in an RV. However, the programme showcased what was ‘‘a common thing thing for people to do’’ when they were visiting New Zealand, taking it in it while travelling in an RV. With a bit of added adventure to the mix. ‘‘It’s meant to be tough. There are times its tough on all of us. It’s not a constant holiday,’’ Mr Cole said. ‘‘The Travel Channel has committed to New Zealand with this show. ‘‘We can hopefully say we have something special here,’’ he said. Ms Byram said that she was looking forward to the show airing and she was confident it would be well received and attract more visitors to New Zealand. The New Zealand backdrop to the show was ‘‘mind blowing’’, she said. Filming started in Auckland and followed the couples as they made their way down the country stopping in Rotorua, Taupo, Marton and Taihape, Wellington, Abel Tasman, Greymouth, Franz Josef Glacier, Wanaka and Queenstown. Tourism New Zealand provided assistance to the show’s producers, keen to maximise the exposure of the country as a tourism destination. Tourism New Zealand general manager of international public relations Catherine Bates said ‘‘It’s a real coup that New Zealand has been chosen as the filming destination for this new series, which will showcase its breadth and beauty to a global audience.’’
