Final Jacks Point run
Queenstown runner Simon Green won the half marathon in the final race in the Queenstown Frontrunner Series at Jacks Point on the weekend. A $3000 World Travellers’ voucher was won by Derek Melnick in a prize draw. While the monthly runs are over for the year a 3km or 5km Santa Run will take place next Wednesday at 6.30pm at Jacks Point. It raises money for the KidsCan charity.
NZ curlers fourth
The men’s New Zealand curling team finished fourth at the Asia-Pacific curling championships in Shanghai last week. The team included Sean and Scott Becker and Phil Dowling, all from Maniototo. The team needs to finish in the top two at an Olympic qualifying tournament in Germany next month to qualify for next year’s Sochi Olympics in Russia.
Cross-country mountain biking
The Otago cross-country mountainbiking and single speed championships will be held at Hogburn Gully, in Naseby this Sunday. The event, organised by mountain biking Otago, will feature cross-country events beginning at 10am, with the single speed championships beginning at 1.30pm. The event will be sign-posted from the Royal Hotel car park.
The annual Lake Dunstan Boat Club powerboat regatta will be held in Cromwell this weekend. Competitors expected to take part include Cromwell’s Anthony Robertson in his new Formula 1 boat built in Italy, as well as Ryan Birch, also from Cromwell, who has this season stepped up from Formula 3 to Formula 1 competition. Best viewing will be from Old Cromwell Town and Printers Bay.
Tri Wooing Tree
The third annual Tri Wooing Tree event will be held in Cromwell on December 8. The event is held in and around the Wooing Tree Vineyard and includes a competitive triathlon and duathlon, beginner events and children’s events. The triathlon events include a swim category in the vineyard’s irrigation dam.
