Grand Prix bid

The Highland Motorsport park has formally presented a proposal to host the New Zealand Grand Prix from 2015 to 2017. The race was held near Palmerston North for the past six years. Park owner Tony Quinn said hosting the Grand Prix was on his bucket list. ‘‘We want the New Zealand Grand Prix to be the first of each year, before the opening round of the Formula 1 season in Melbourne in March.’’ Highlands general manager Mike Sentch said the New Zealand event lost some of its prestige in the last 20 years and the new proposal was well received by Motorsport New Zealand.
