The Hawea to Makarora return 80 kilometre cycle race will be held on Sunday. Meet at the Lake Hawea Hotel at 9.30am. The cost is $5 for Wakatipu Cycling members and $10 for non members.
Organisers of the Wild Descent kayak race on the Clutha River had to postpone the event last week until April because of safety concerns. High river levels and rain will mean the race will be moved to April 24 to 27.
Hawea residents no longer need to boil their drinking water. Samples of treated water in the reticulated supply were clear of e-coli for three days, the period required to declare the supply safe to drink without boiling. Chlorination continued as a precaution because e-coli was still being detected in daily samples of untreated lake water, the Queenstown Lakes District Council said.
