Wanaka Primary School intervention
The Ministry of Education has appointed Cleave Hay as a limited statutory manager for the Wanaka Primary School. A chair committee has governed the school since former board of trustees chairman Richard Cubie left the position in December. Mr Cubie cited concerns over the way complaints from parents were being dealt with.
Cake and Country Classics
A traditional tea dance with a country flavour will be held at the Elmslie House Residential Home on Monday. The event will be held between 2pm and 3.30pm and will include live music and afternoon tea.
Wanaka Residents AGM
The Wanaka Residents Association will hold its AGM tomorrow night at the Lake Wanaka Centre at 7.30pm. All Wanaka community residents and ratepayers were welcome to attend.
Food grades online
Inspectors have given 350 Queenstown and Wanaka pubs and restaurants a clean bill of health with no premises, so far, failing food safety audits. Diners can check out the grades for restaurants, bars, cafes and takeaway outlets online with the Queenstown Lakes District Council. Regulatory manager Lee Webster said some recently-opened premises were ungraded because they were awaiting inspections.
Velvet and antlers
The Otago branch of the Deer Farmers Association and The Elk and Wapiti Society of New Zealand are holding their respective Velvet Competitions at Edgewater on Saturday. The ticketed event begins at 5pm with public viewing of velvet and antlers, venison cooking demonstrations, awards and The World of Deerable Arts fashion show.
Google Workshop for Parents
Parents wanting to find out more information about helping their child online can take part in an information event next week being hosted by Sydney-based Google teacher and trainer Mike Reading. The workshop, which will discuss how parents can use Google to access their students work, how to use it more efficiently and provide information for parents on Cybersaftey, will be held on January 30 at 7pm at the Wanaka Primary School.
Hawea Church Service
A monthly church service will be held at the St Ninian’s Church in Hawea. The service will be held the first Sunday of the month at 10am. The heritage building was dedicated 75 years ago and held a service up until about a year ago.
