Wanaka Pri­mary School in­ter­ven­tion

The Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion has ap­pointed Cleave Hay as a lim­ited statu­tory man­ager for the Wanaka Pri­mary School. A chair com­mit­tee has gov­erned the school since for­mer board of trustees chair­man Richard Cu­bie left the po­si­tion in De­cem­ber. Mr Cu­bie cited con­cerns over the way com­plaints from par­ents were be­ing dealt with.

Cake and Coun­try Clas­sics

A tra­di­tional tea dance with a coun­try flavour will be held at the Elm­slie House Res­i­den­tial Home on Mon­day. The event will be held be­tween 2pm and 3.30pm and will in­clude live mu­sic and af­ter­noon tea.

Wanaka Res­i­dents AGM

The Wanaka Res­i­dents As­so­ci­a­tion will hold its AGM tomorrow night at the Lake Wanaka Cen­tre at 7.30pm. All Wanaka com­mu­nity res­i­dents and ratepay­ers were wel­come to at­tend.

Food grades online

In­spec­tors have given 350 Queen­stown and Wanaka pubs and restau­rants a clean bill of health with no premises, so far, fail­ing food safety au­dits. Din­ers can check out the grades for restau­rants, bars, cafes and take­away out­lets online with the Queen­stown Lakes Dis­trict Coun­cil. Reg­u­la­tory man­ager Lee Web­ster said some re­cently-opened premises were un­graded be­cause they were await­ing in­spec­tions.

Vel­vet and antlers

The Otago branch of the Deer Farm­ers As­so­ci­a­tion and The Elk and Wapiti So­ci­ety of New Zealand are hold­ing their re­spec­tive Vel­vet Com­pe­ti­tions at Edge­wa­ter on Satur­day. The tick­eted event be­gins at 5pm with pub­lic view­ing of vel­vet and antlers, veni­son cook­ing demon­stra­tions, awards and The World of Deer­able Arts fash­ion show.

Google Workshop for Par­ents

Par­ents want­ing to find out more in­for­ma­tion about help­ing their child online can take part in an in­for­ma­tion event next week be­ing hosted by Syd­ney-based Google teacher and trainer Mike Read­ing. The workshop, which will dis­cuss how par­ents can use Google to ac­cess their stu­dents work, how to use it more ef­fi­ciently and pro­vide in­for­ma­tion for par­ents on Cy­ber­saftey, will be held on Jan­uary 30 at 7pm at the Wanaka Pri­mary School.

Hawea Church Ser­vice

A monthly church ser­vice will be held at the St Ninian’s Church in Hawea. The ser­vice will be held the first Sun­day of the month at 10am. The her­itage build­ing was ded­i­cated 75 years ago and held a ser­vice up un­til about a year ago.

The Queen­stown Lakes Dis­trict Coun­cil is hold­ing pub­lic fo­rums to en­cour­age peo­ple to share their thoughts about li­brary ser­vices. Fo­rums will be held in Queen­stown, Ar­row­town, Wanaka, Hawea, Kingston and Glenorchy. For more in­for­ma­tion visit: qldc.govt.nz.
