Car pins walker

An el­derly woman was struck by a car in Wanaka on Mon­day af­ter another el­derly driver hit the ac­cel­er­a­tor in­stead of the brake when park­ing. Se­nior Con­sta­ble Sean Hur­ley, of Wanaka, said the driver of the Toy­ota Corolla car had been at­tempt­ing to park on Hel­wick St just af­ter 3pm when they ac­cel­er­ated, knock­ing over a park­ing sign and hit­ting the pedes­trian. The car drove over the woman and crashed into the win­dow of Gallery Thirty Three. Emer­gency ser­vices freed the woman and She was treated for mod­er­ate in­juries. Mr Hur­ley said in­ves­ti­ga­tions into the crash would con­tinue.
