The Big Easy moun­tain marathon and moun­tain bike ride held at Snow Park on Satur­day at­tracted a record num­ber of par­tic­i­pants. The event boosted a 42.2 full marathon and 48km bike event as well as shorter races. Wanaka’s Dou­gal Al­lan and Jo Wil­liams won the moun­tain bike race sec­tions with Grant Guise, of Wanaka, and Mel Aitken, of Dunedin, win­ning the marathon sec­tions.

Thomp­son’s triathlons

At the Taka­puna Elite Tri Champs, Queen­stown triath­lete Fynn Thomp­son was sec­ond in the un­der-19s and sev­enth over­all. He man­aged it with a 15-sec­ond time penalty on the run due to dis­mount­ing too late on his bike. At the Skoda triathlon se­ries in Pen­rith last week he was ninth in the 16 to 19 age group and was a mem­ber of the ninth placed New Zealand Triathlon squad team. He races in the NZ Tri Se­ries at Kin­loch, Lake Taupo, this weekend.

Grand Prix ath­letes

Wanaka ath­letes Lorenz Kissling and Oska InksterBaynes have both been rac­ing on the Ath­let­ics NZ Grand Prix Cir­cuit over the past week with Kissling plac­ing third in the Cooks Clas­sic Jr 1500m race in Wellington (4:05), and Inkster-Baynes fol­low­ing up with a third in the 3000m, in a new PB of 8:29.
