The New Zealand Ice Black team to compete at the world champs in Spain this year has been named with strong representation from Queenstown. Stampede players Bert Haines and Callum Burns are in the team with Kane Easterbrook as reserve goalie. Former Queenstown players now at Otago University Connor Harrison, Mitchell Frear and Luke Pickering are also in the team as well as Ryan Lee, who has recently been playing in Melbourne. Ross Burns is the team’s assistant manager and One on One physio Natalie Murphy is stepping up from her role as Stampede physiotherapist, to the Ice Blacks. The group would travel to the Czech Republic for training in March before competing in the second division of the champs in Jaca, Spain, in April. Burns said there was excellent representation from Queenstown, with 17-year-old Wakatipu High School student Callum Burns a stand out because of his age.
