Triath­letes win

Tony Dodds and Nicky Sa­muels proved too strong for in­ter­na­tional fields at the Ocea­nia Su­per Sprint Cup triathlon event at Pe­ga­sus at the weekend. In the lat­est round of the na­tional se­ries, Dodds turned the ta­bles in a sprint fin­ish over great ri­val Ryan Sissons while Sa­muels backed up from her win at Taka­puna a fort­night ago.

Columb’s de­fence

Queen­stown’s Scott Columb fin­ished the open­ing round of the New Zealand mo­tocross cham­pi­onships in sec­ond place on points at Pleas­ant Point on the weekend. De­fend­ing his na­tional MX2 ti­tle he was only three points be­hind leader Kayne La­mont. Columb said it was go­ing to be a long se­ries with the com­pe­ti­tion so close. ‘‘I’m the old dog in this group.’’

Sports Awards

Nom­i­na­tions are open for the house of Travel Cen­tral Otago Sports Awards. Judges, led by Cen­tral Otago Mayor Tony Lep­per, will choose the top five in each cat­e­gory: se­nior and ju­nior sports­man and sportswoman, team and coach and then judge each cat­e­gory.
