Games selection decision next week
Wanaka triathlete Nicky Samuels should know next week whether she will be competing for her country at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Last week she was delighted to be added to the New Zealand triathlon team nominated after appealing her initial nonselection, when she was named as a reserve for the team relay last month.
Her appeal was based on two fifth-place finishes in World Series events over the past 12 months.
‘‘I knew in my heart that my results were good enough to be in the team so, although it took a bit longer to get to the bottom of this, it is the right decision, so I’m happy with the outcome,’’ Samuels said.
She finished 24th at the ITU World Triathlon Series event in Yokohama two weeks ago and was 16th in Auckland in April.
The New Zealand Olympic Committee now have the final say on who attends the Commonwealth Games with a decision expected next week.
