Firefighters save dog stuck on dam

Central Otago Mirror - - CENTRAL NEWS -

A ‘‘damsel in distress’’ handed out hugs for Roxburgh firefighters who rescued her collie stuck on a cliff face overlooking Roxburgh Dam on Friday.

Station Officer Ian Wells said the firefighters turned up to the dam about 1pm on Friday to see the dog, Chevy, wedged between two rocks on a cliff face about 15 metres from the ground.

The owner of the collie had pulled into the lookout to take a photo, and let the dog out for a toilet stop, he said.

‘‘He was a very lucky dog. It was sitting on a bit of a tree between two rocks.

‘‘If that wasn’t there he would be a dead dog . . . The firemen got lots of hugs.’’
