New WI pres­i­dent

Motueka woman Kay Hart has been named the new pres­i­dent of the New Zealand Fed­er­a­tion of Women’s In­sti­tutes, one of the largest groups of women vol­un­teers in New Zealand. The ap­point­ment was made at this week’s 93rd an­nual con­fer­ence in Welling­ton.

With more than 6000 women na­tion­wide car­ry­ing out a wide va­ri­ety of roles in their com­mu­ni­ties, they have been de­scribed by some as a force to be reck­oned with. Hart joined the move­ment in May 1965. She has also been pres­i­dent of the Nel­son Aero Club.

Ex­plor­ing multi me­dia mu­sic

Otago Univer­sity Mozart Fel­low Jeremy May­all will present a se­lec­tion of works ex­plor­ing cross-genre mu­si­cal hy­brid­ity in a multimedia con­text in Queen­stown this week. Through fus­ing live in­stru­men­tal el­e­ments with sound de­sign, lights and video May­all aims to cre­ate a new world of mu­si­cal per­for­mance. He will share in­sights into his ap­proach to com­po­si­tion, as well as show­cas­ing a range of his cre­ative work. The evening has been or­gan­ised by the Cat­a­lyst Trust and takes place at the Queen­stown Re­sort Col­lege on Mon­day from 7.30pm. It costs $10 and in­cludes a ques­tion and an­swer ses­sion. Book­ings not re­quired.
