New WI president
Motueka woman Kay Hart has been named the new president of the New Zealand Federation of Women’s Institutes, one of the largest groups of women volunteers in New Zealand. The appointment was made at this week’s 93rd annual conference in Wellington.
With more than 6000 women nationwide carrying out a wide variety of roles in their communities, they have been described by some as a force to be reckoned with. Hart joined the movement in May 1965. She has also been president of the Nelson Aero Club.
Exploring multi media music
Otago University Mozart Fellow Jeremy Mayall will present a selection of works exploring cross-genre musical hybridity in a multimedia context in Queenstown this week. Through fusing live instrumental elements with sound design, lights and video Mayall aims to create a new world of musical performance. He will share insights into his approach to composition, as well as showcasing a range of his creative work. The evening has been organised by the Catalyst Trust and takes place at the Queenstown Resort College on Monday from 7.30pm. It costs $10 and includes a question and answer session. Bookings not required.
