New chairman keen to promote town
Great believer in Cromwell attributes
The Cromwell Promotions Group has fresh face at the helm.
Terry Davis, nominated by returned committee member Janeen Wood, is the new chairman of the group, replacing Adrian Somerville who recently retired from the position.
Somerville had been president since 2003, but did not seek re-election as he was moving to Mosgiel.
Davis said the new committee was a ‘‘good mix of fresh blood and experience’’ and he was looking forward to talking to local stakeholders and getting their ideas and input.
‘‘The outgoing chairman, Adrian, has been awonderful frontman for the group . . . The key think I want to do initially is talk and listen to the community.
‘‘Cromwell is well endowed with a variety of very capable industry leaders. I’m a big believer in synergy so I will be looking at how we can work collaboratively with the community.’’
Davis had an interest in sports, as the co-director of Highland Events— a running and mountainbiking events company, as well as experience as secretary of the Otago Goldfields Heritage Trust and cavalcade organiser. He is also project manager for the Central Otago Memory Bank, a mini soccer coach, is on the junior soccer committee and Cromwell Bike Park Committee.
‘‘Although I have an obvious interest and background in sporting events, Cromwell has a wide range of facets that makes it a really interesting and worthy place to visit and live.
‘‘ It has some of the best wine in the country, the best motorsport park, the best dry environment for cross-country and mountain pursuits, the lake and a rich heritage, and I am excited about promoting all those.’’
The 42-year-old was born in Ranfurly, and lived in Cromwell for a time as a child. He moved back to Cromwell in 2007.
‘‘I came back here for the lifestyle with a young family and having travelled extensively I believe Cromwell is one of the best places in the world to raise a family and live an adventurous lifestyle.’’
New helmsman: Terry Davis has been elected the new chairman of the Cromwell Promotions Group.
