Ex­pert to talk in­vest­ment in In­done­sia

Jakarta-based busi­ness and po­lit­i­cal an­a­lyst Dou­glas Ra­m­age will speak in Queen­stown about the pol­i­tics and eco­nom­ics of ‘‘the new In­done­sia’’.

Ra­m­age has more than 25 years’ ex­pe­ri­ence in In­done­sia, ad­vis­ing For­tune 500 com­pa­nies and has been both gov­er­nance and pol­i­tics ad­viser to the World Bank and Aus­tralian govern­ment de­vel­op­ment pro­grammes.

He will speak as a guest of the Cat­a­lyst Trust on Mon­day, from 5.30pm at The Rees Ho­tel.

Af­ter a decade of po­lit­i­cal and eco­nomic de­vel­op­ment, In­done­sia is now char­ac­terised by a large mid­dle class, a dy­namic free press and very high con­sumer con­fi­dence.

‘‘How­ever, an at­mos­phere of eco­nomic na­tion­al­ism has taken hold in the run-up to the na­tion’s pres­i­den­tial elec­tion.’’
