Queen­stown skier Alice Robin­son con­tin­ued her win­ning form at the week­end. She won the women’s un­der-14 sec­tion of the gi­ant slalom at Cardrona dur­ing the Ju­nior In­ter­field ski rac­ing on Sun­day af­ter win­ning the same cat­e­gory and be­ing the fastest racer across all cat­e­gories in the combi (slalom and GS course) a week ear­lier at Coronet Peak. At Cardrona, she was sec­ond by 1 sec to Ben Richards, of Cardrona, who was first in the un­der-16 men’s. Eden Mckay, who was first in the un­der-16 women’s, posted the third fastest time of the day.

Cur­rie run­ner-up

Wanaka’s Braden Cur­rie fin­ished a gritty sec­ond in Scanno, at Xterra Italy, on Satur­day. Af­ter fight­ing back from a huge fall on the moun­tain­bike sec­tion, he played his ‘‘get out of jail card’’ on the run, fin­ish­ing sec­ond, about 4 mins be­hind Span­ish world cham­pion Ruben Ruzafa. He also held off five-time world Xterra cham­pion, South Africa’s Con­rad Stoltz. His race sched­ule has been full-on since he be­gan com­pet­ing in Europe – with four off-road triathlons in five weeks, so far se­cur­ing a win and three sec­onds in the ul­tra-com­pet­i­tive Xterra cham­pi­onship. He faces another two races in the Euro cir­cuit.

Run­ning up­hill
