Environment enhances child’s learning

The ZigZagZoo Early Learning Centre is passionate and enthusiastic about providing a respectful, responsive and peaceful educational learning programme for all infants and children.

Zig Zag Zoo was established in 2010 by Nikki and Mike as they decided it was the right time for an additional Early Learning Centre to be introduced in Queenstown.

‘‘We both felt that Queenstown needed a centre with a point of difference, that being the inspiration to follow the Reggio and RIE philosophy,’’ says Nikki.

‘‘The program suits the communities way of life and encourages community and family connections, whilst emotionally and educationally preparing the children for school and life beyond the early years.’’

Catering for children aged three months to five years Zig Zag Zoo offers two centres, one at Remarkables Park, the other in Henry St, Queenstown.

Both centres are purposebuilt to cater for childcare.

They are modern, environmentally sound, have year round underfloor heating, state-of-the-art equipment and highly experienced teachers and staff.

‘‘The philosophy is also unique,’’ Nikki says.

‘‘It is considered one of the leading programs worldwide and has an incredible foundation for both the educaitonal and emotional side of caring for our children.

‘‘It is the first of its kind in Queenstown.’’

Being locally owned, Zig Zag Zoo, provides a connection to the community and Nikki and Michael are both dedicated to the children and family’s who use their service.

‘‘We try to engage in local events and businesses that align themselves with family and community so that we can support the relationship between educating our children and the community as a whole,’’ says Nikki.

Zig Zag Zoo’s environment is such that it is considered the third teacher and enhances every child’s learning. It is valued, respected, organised, inviting, engaging, well resourced and calm.

The communication between parents, children and teachers, and the relationships that are fostered between them are essential elements in supporting the young child’s learning and development.

Teachers and staff consult with, listen carefully to, and acknowledge each parent’s aspirations for their own child, and endeavor to achieve these.

Our Teaching Team celebrates and delights in the Journey of Learning of each child.
