Pian­ist to give con­cert

‘Ver­sa­tile’ per­former is in­ter­na­tion­ally ac­claimed

In­ter­na­tion­ally ac­claimed pian­ist Stephen De Pledge will be per­form­ing in Wanaka this week­end.

De Pledge, who has per­formed in the United King­dom, Italy, France, Sin­ga­pore, Ja­pan, Aus­tralia and the United States, will fea­ture works by Grana­dos, Schu­mann, Liszt, Strauss, An­thony Ritchie, Prokofiev and De­bussy in his recital.

Wanaka Con­cert So­ci­ety mem­ber Kate Lovell said ‘‘with such an in­ter­na­tional rep­u­ta­tion, we are very for­tu­nate to have him com­ing to Wanaka’’.

‘‘Stephen De Pledge is one of the most ex­cit­ing and ver­sa­tile mu­si­cians of his gen­er­a­tion.’’

He stud­ied at the Univer­sity of Auck­land and then at the Guild­hall School of Mu­sic and Drama in Lon­don. His ca­reer was launched af­ter win­ning the gold medal from Guild­hall and the NFMS Young Con­cert Artists’ Award.

De Pledge ac­com­pa­nied the South­ern Sin­fo­nia to an Or­ches­tra Fes­ti­val in Ja­pan in Oc­to­ber where he was hand se­lected, af­ter a re­quest by the Ja­panese gov­ern­ment that the or­ches­tra per­form a con­certo with aNew Zealand soloist, to per­form.

‘‘The Ja­panese loved him and he re­ceived huge ap­plause,’’ Lovell said.

Tick­ets to the con­cert will be avail­able from Gifted De­sign and door sales will also be sold.
