An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.3 struck 15km south-west of Wanaka on Sunday at 3.36am. The depth of the earthquake was 7km and GeoNet reported the quake as being of moderate intensity. A second earthquake struck 45km north-east of Wanaka on Monday morning at 4.08am which was reported as a magnitude 2.2 and 5km deep.
A driver who failed to stop at the stop sign at the Brownston and Dungarvon streets intersection was issued with an infringement notice by Wanaka police last week. Wanaka sub-area commander senior sergeant Allan Grindell said no-one was injured but both cars, one a rental, were moderately damaged.
