Celebrity chef visit
Chef and restaurateur Michael Van de Elzen, best know for presenting the television series The Food Truck, will be visiting Wanaka this weekend to promote his new cookbook Fast: Good Home Cooking. Van de Elzen will be at Edgewater on Saturday at 12pm. Tickets cost $20 from Paper Plus Wanaka, and include lunch, and the event will double as a fundraiser for St John.
Concept plans of the Wanaka Community House by Sarah Scott Architects have been released for public comment. The building concept has been supported by potential tenants in the social services and arts sector and the house has been designed to fit alongside the Anglican Church. It includes several offices and meeting rooms, a shared reception area and an auditorium space. The next undertaking for the Wanaka Community House Trust was to raise the estimated $2.8 million for the project. The plans can be viewed at: community networks.co.nz.
Additional St John frontline staff in Alexandra and Wanaka would make a huge difference to response times and patient safety, Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean says. ‘‘National’s $9.2 million investment in emergency ambulance service funding, through ACC, would bring about huge benefits for Central Otago people with two additional ambulance staff members employed in Alexandra and another in Wanaka.’’
A 25-year-old Wanaka man was charged with drink-driving after he crashed the BMW car he was driving and was then found to have a breath alcohol reading of 799mcg on Monday night. Wanaka sub-area commander Senior Sergeant Allan Grindell said the man lost control of the car on a right hand bend near Timber Creek, between Cardrona and Wanaka, and rolled the vehicle about 6.40pm. The man was uninjured in the crash and was expected to appear in the Queenstown District Court.
The first of Central Barrel Racing Series was held at the Isuzu Arena at the Wanaka Rodeo Grounds at the weekend. Riders tacked up their horses to take part in the event which was held in prefect conditions. Wanaka rider Vicki Byrne (pictured) took part in the action.
