Mad Mike to be let loose on High­lands’ track

Dar­ing dis­plays of ’’shred­ding side­ways’’ by global drift sen­sa­tion ‘‘Mad’’ Mike Whid­dett will be a part of the mo­tor­sport ac­tion of the High­lands 101 event in Novem­ber.

Whid­dett will bring his Mazda RX7 to the event at the High­lands Mo­tor­sport Park in Cromwell to put on a lunchtime show for race fans.

‘‘I’m pumped to now be a part of the High­lands 101 event. I’m one of many drifters who ea­gerly watched the High­lands Mo­tor­sport Park come to­gether and have been pray­ing for the op­por­tu­nity to drift the track ever since,’’ he said.

‘‘I was down at High­lands midAu­gust and was for­tu­nate enough to get the grand tour of the fa­cil­ity and drive the amaz­ing track. This time, I can­not wait to do it again but in the one and only MADBUL, RX7, shred­ding side­ways.’’

High­lands’ event mar­ket­ing man­ager Melanie Kees said ‘‘Mike is known for want­ing to push the bound­aries as an am­bas­sador of the sport of drift­ing’’.

‘‘There’s no doubt fans will be in for a treat as Mad Mike lets loose on the High­lands’ cir­cuit.’’

This year’s High­lands 101 race will again see up to 42 race driver vie for the che­quered flag at the end of 101 laps, or 31⁄ in­tense hours, on the 4.1 kilo­me­tre High­lands cir­cuit.
