Treble Cone Ski Area has enjoyed its ‘‘strongest ever’’ August with a four-week fine spell drawing a record number of visitors to the mountain, according to marketing manager Nick Noble. Most of the visitors were locals, other New Zealanders or Australians. The Saddle Basin snow depth peaked at 259cm deep through the middle of August. A further 15cm of snow has accumulated at the top of the Saddle Basin this week.

Skiers flocked to the mountain last weekend for a Community Day to raise $1300 for Kea Conservation, Aspiring Avalanche Dogs, and the Westpac rescue helicopter.

One of the most popular events was the Shake Down, an obstacle course on the Nice’n Easy Platter, with the goal to beat sponsor Steve Shikker’s 8mins 5secs course time. The event included drinking a beer, eating a pie and navigating the course in whiteout conditions.
