Coastguard gets recognition
Coastguard Wanaka Lakes missed out on two national excellence awards at the Coastguard New Zealand awards ceremony in Auckland last weekend.
Wanaka coastguard president Jonathan Walmisley and the Wanaka unit were both in the running for awards after recently winning regional awards for unit support volunteer of the year and unit of the year.
Walmisley said the unit award was won by Lake Taupo while the volunteer award was won by North Shore.

Walmisley was nominated for the unit support award because of his roles as president, training support officer and fundraiser.
The unit was involved in three search and rescue operations last year.
