Top cy­clist joins team

English­man Tom Ste­wart, a Tour of Bri­tain stage placeget­ter, is one of five cy­clists to fill a spot in the Tour of South­land’s first town team. The 24-year-old will join fel­low Team Cromwell rid­ers Matt Holmes, 20, of Bri­tain, Mark Spes­sot, 47, of Dunedin, Cromwell’s Gavin Ma­son — a 2013 tour com­peti­tor, and for­mer South­lander Matt Mar­shall. Team Cromwell spokesman Glen Chris­tiansen said there was only one spot left to fill, but with team man­ager Barry Tall on the job, that would not be hard. Tall had an ex­ten­sive cy­cling back­ground and had trained Com­mon­wealth Games gold
