Pool plans proceed
A late bid by the Northlake developers to delay public consultation on Wanaka’s swimming pool has been rejected by the High Court in Christchurch. Queenstown Lakes District Council chief executive Adam Feeley has confirmed consultation would proceed as planned. Northlake applied for the injunction because it had concerns about site information presented to the council at an extraordinary meeting earlier this month. Submissions close on November 21. A hearing has been scheduled for December 8-9. Contact Energy has agreed to support Lake Hawea’s signature mountainbike event, the Contact Epic, for another three years. The electricity generator and event organiser LMS Events have also agreed that $5 from every entry to the Contact Epic challenge will now be donated by LMS Events to a community fund. Contact will match that contribution dollar for dollar up to 1000 entries, or $5000 per year. The race around Lake Hawea began in 2008. Contact Epic is on April 18, 2015.
