Three Central Otago ice cream shops have been named in New Zealand’s top 10 by the world’s largest travel website, TripAdvisor.

The parlours have been ranked according to the TripAdvisor Popularity Index, which takes quality, quantity and recent reviews from TripAdvisor into account.

Chocolates Patagonia, in Queenstown, was ranked No 5.

Founded in 2010 by Alejandro Giminez, the parlour serves a range of chocolates, desserts, ice cream and coffee.

‘‘We had ice cream here today and loved the flavours and creamy texture! The scoop size was great and location by the lake is always nice,’’ one review said. Wanaka’s Black Peak Gelato was ranked No 7. The company was brought to Australasia more than 70 years ago from Tuscany.

‘‘The ice cream here is made by the owner and it is delicious. We actually went a couple of times and each time the service was fantastic and friendly,’’ a review said. At No 8 was Movenpick, in Queenstown. One TripAdvisor reviewer said: ‘‘Don’t miss out, this ice cream is really good. Nice creamy and not too sweet ice cream, a must for dessert!’’

No 5: Alejandro Giminez of Patagonia.
