Stories impress awards judges

Central Otago Mirror - - WANAKA NEWS -

Congratulations to our Central Otago reporter Jo McKenzie McLean, who has been selected as a finalist in the 2015 Canon Media Awards for her excellent work in the Mirror.

Her nomination was based on a portfolio of stories covering her patch from around Central Otago.

Those stories included an article on the impact of new adventure tourism regulations threatening multisport events, an exclusive about property owners who bought into a dream project at McArthur Ridge then banded together when the development went south and a feel-good piece about marathon runner and paramedic Barry Eunson, who saved the life of another runner in Dublin.

Her fourth story in the portfolio was the Central Otago ‘‘rubbish ruckus,’’ a classic tale of town versus country after the rollout of the council’s new wheelie bin service, which left one side of Bannockburn Rd ineligible for pickup.

We wish Jo, who also writes for The Southland Times, the Press and Stuff, all the best in this year’s awards.

Jo McKenzie-McLean
