Lake Hawea base jumper wins film fes­ti­val award

Lake Hawea base jumper David Walden is ‘‘stoked’’ his film, 2 Minute Men, has won the NZ Moun­tain Film Fes­ti­val’s Best NZ- made Film and Hid­dle­ston/ Mac­Queen Award.

The five-minute movie, which will have its world pre­miere in Wanaka on July 3, doc­u­ments a pi­o­neer­ing wing suit flight over the Rob Roy Glacier in Fe­bru­ary by Walden and two friends, Rodolphe Cas­san and a man called ‘‘French Samu­rai’’.

‘‘He likes to be anony­mous . . . He is not into base jump­ing for the glory and I re­spect him for that,’’ Walden said.
