Broad­band pitch gains mo­men­tum

Cen­tral Otago com­mu­ni­ties are in­vited to a brain­storm­ing ses­sion to de­velop a plan in sup­port of ul­tra­fast broad­band bids.

Cen­tral Otago Dis­trict Coun­cil eco­nomic devel­op­ment manager War­wick Hawker said lo­cal au­thor­i­ties were be­ing asked to pro­vide a Dig­i­tal Entable­ment Plan for their com­mu­ni­ties in sup­port of any bids they make to be in­cluded in the ul­tra­fast broad­band, ru­ral broad­band and mo­bile black spot pro­grammes the Gov­ern­ment an­nounced re­cently.

Th­ese plans needed to demon­strate good use would be made of new broad­band or mo­bile in­fra­struc­ture within those com­mu­ni­ties, Hawker said.

The Gov­ern­ment wants to know: ◗ why com­mu­ni­ties need this in­fra­struc­ture? ◗ what com­mu­nity mem­bers would do with it if they had it? and ◗ that com­mu­nity mem­bers know how to use it if they get it.

Brain­storm ses­sions are be­ing held on th­ese ques­tions.
