Skiing under way
Cardrona Alpine Resort opened early for the season as planned on Saturday, but strong winds forced a quick closure.
Sales and marketing manager Nadia Ellis said the windy conditions meant the skifield had to delay opening day from Saturday until Sunday.
‘‘We tried our best but we made up for it today. It was a great day,’’ she said on Sunday. Over 1500 people turned out for opening day. On Monday, early birds were rewarded with an uncrowded chair lift queue and new skiffs of snow provided good conditions.
Tuesday morning brought variable visibility but the winds were forecast to decrease.
Three chairlifts are already open and Antlers Alley terrain park was due to open on Tuesday.
