Having a soft spot for animals

Central Otago Mirror - - WANAKA NEWS -

There’s one essential quality Mr Right must have and that’s a love for animals. There’s something seriously wrong with a man who doesn’t like animals. Vegetarian friends accuse me of hypocrisy in calling myself an animal lover, but that’s another conversation.

I’m talking about pets. Friends said a final goodbye to a beloved family pet recently. I wept when I heard the news. He was a good age and had been with his family from puppy days. I will miss him.

You could not want for a more friendly, loyal and gentle dog. He was a dog who knew how to smile. He was also an animal with a remarkable ability to quietly sit with you when you were upset. There are few people who know the right things to stay in times of sadness. This dog knew that just being there is what’s needed.

I’d looked after him occasionally when his owners were away.

He’d slowed down a bit in the last year, but before that he would swim and chase sticks (and often cats) for hours.

How could I possibly want a man who didn’t want to share such joy?
