Retirement villages explained
Choosing the lifestyle you want and knowing what you’re buying, are key factors in decisions around moving into a retirement village. Executive Director of the Retirement Villages Association New Zealand John Collyns will be in Alexandra on Thursday August 20 to talk with those thinking of living in a retirement village.
The public meeting is hosted by Presbyterian Support Otago (PSO), owners of Alexandra’s Ranui care home and Ranui Court village.
John has been touring New Zealand with members of the government’s Commission for Financial Capability, presenting the facts about retirement village living to capacity audiences.
PSO felt John’s experience and unbiased presentation at those events was worthy of sharing in Alexandra.
PSO Chief Executive Gillian Bremner says it is important for people intending to purchase a home in a retirement village, to know and understand the many aspects of such a purchase.
‘‘Every village is different and there’s more to living happily in a village than simply the complex itself,’’ Gillian says.
‘‘You could be living in a village for many years, and require differing levels of care during that period, so it’s essential you and your family have a full understanding of options available.’’
The meeting is at 2pm in the Alexandra Community Centre on Thursday August 20, 2015.
A question and answer session follows the presentations.
