fundraiser for the year and it’s a big event for all involved.

‘‘We do it with Southern Dragways, we organise it all and we get income from gate sales and the guys doing drags and donations from vendors... we split it between ourselves as a fundraiser, it’s a big event for all.’’

Bringing in between 1800 and 2000 spectators, it has also been a big event for Southern Dragways for many years.

Area Steward for Southern Dragways Shane Smith says the event usually sees an average of 80 to 90 vehicle entries, but that number varies depending on the weather.

‘‘The last two years we’ve had around 75 but three or four years ago we had 120.

It all depends on the weather leading up to it and we try to encourage pre-entries.’’

Vehicles can enter on the day, or can download an entry form from the Southern Dragways website.

Competition cars have entered in previous years, gaining times in the low eight second mark, whilst street cars usually get an average time of 11 seconds.

This makes for a good variety of entries which spectators love.

Racing begins at 11am and finishes at 4pm.
