Use less fuel and save

Central Otago Mirror - - FRONT PAGE -

If you’re travelling around the country this Summer, you may find yourself on roads and in towns you’ve never been before.

This can certainly make it difficult to know when to make your fuel stops.

Below are some great tips to see your tank last longer, taking you further.

1. Use less air conditioning

Open your windows instead, or pull over to allow yourself fresh air regularly.

2. Undertake proper vehicle maintenance

Before you set off, ensure your vehicle has had a full check. This includes getting the tyres pumped up and making sure it is running as efficiently as possible.

3. Take the shortest route to your destination

If your trip doesn’t include sight- seeing, take the shortest route there to save fuel. But ensure you drive to the conditions of the roads you take.

4. Purchase a fuel efficient vehicle

Either use your most fuel-efficient vehicle for the trip, or opt for a new one as a treat to yourself in the new year.

5. Accelerate smoothly

Don’t put your foot down when taking off. Slowly accelerate.

6. Stick to the speed limit

Don’t speed. Allow plenty of time for your journey and stay safe on the road by abiding by the speed limit.

7. Take advantage of service station promotions and discount vouchers

These save you a few dollars here and there which all add up.
