Top chefs step up to plate for Glam­mies Grand Fi­nal

The 2016 Beef + Lamb New Zealand Golden Lamb Awards, aka the Glam­mies, will be judged by a se­lec­tion of New Zealand’s most es­teemed chefs at the Grand Fi­nal in March.

Beef + Lamb New Zealand 2016 Am­bas­sador Chefs and life­time Plat­inum Am­bas­sador Chefs are set to put their ex­cel­lent culi­nary skills to good use to de­ter­mine the 2016 Glam­mies Grand Cham­pion.

Head judge, and Beef + Lamb New Zealand Ad­vi­sory Chef, Gra­ham Hawkes, will work along­side Am­bas­sador Chefs, Andi Bozhiqi, Reon Hob­son and Scott Kennedy, and Plat­inum Am­bas­sadors, Michael Cough­lin and Dar­ren Wright, to taste test each of the 20 fi­nal­ists.

"It’s al­ways a priv­i­lege to be in­volved with the Glam­mies. New Zealand lamb is world-renowned and the Glam­mies com­pe­ti­tion is a way to recog­nise the farm­ers who pro­duce it", says Hawkes.

Gold medal­list and Iron Maiden, Lisa Car­ring­ton, will make a guest ap­pear­ance at the Up­per Clutha A&P show for the Grand Fi­nal on March 11.

The Glam­mies com­pe­ti­tion aims to find the most ten­der and tasty lamb in New Zealand from both farmer and re­tailer en­tries.

The top 20 fi­nal­ists are cho­sen based on the sci­en­tific as­sess­ment of yield, ten­der­ness, suc­cu­lence and colour of each en­try lamb leg at Carne Tech­nolo­gies.

The com­pe­ti­tion is sup­ported by NZX Agri and Zoetis with pro­cess­ing plants across the coun­try in­volved in the com­pe­ti­tion. Th­ese in­clude: AFFCO, Al­liance Group Ltd, ANZCO Foods Can­ter­bury, Ash­bur­ton Meat Pro­ces­sors Ltd, Auck­land Meat Pro­ces­sors/Wil­son Hellaby, Blue Sky Meats, Caber­net Foods/Kin­tyre Meats, Har­ris Meats, Lean Meats, Pro­gres­sive Meats, Sil­ver Fern Farms and Tay­lor Pre­ston.
