Adventure awaits at Highlands
The April school holidays are just around the corner, and now is the perfect time to plan a family trip to Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell.
Highlands Motorsport Park is an awesome destination for any family, and there’s something to do around every corner.
For the littlies, you can take them on the Jurassic Safari Tour – it’s an hour-long adventure which has dinosaurs and an adventure playground in the middle of the forest. Perfect for the younger family members. For $79, two adults and up to three children can experience the Jurassic Safari, and also enjoy a trip to the Highlands museum, which contains balance bikes – fun for the under-6s and also a Bathurst-shaped mini golf course, for those who enjoy a slightly more sedate outing.
For older children – and children at heart – why not try out the gokarts or go for a ride in the Highlands Taxi – let your inner daredevil out for a thrill ride around the course. The Taxi can take up to four people and the driver is there to cater the experience to what you want – faster, slower ... it’s up to you. Why not hire out some dirt buggies and enjoy a game of follow the leader?
While there’s plenty of thrills to be had at Highlands, there’s also plenty to do if you want a quieter experience.
The museum houses an extensive collection and anything you want to know about motor racing history is right here. There’s an impressive collection of vehicles, and the cafe is ready for when you need a cuppa and a bit of a sitdown. Or take a stroll through the sculpture garden, which features clever sculptures of cars in unusual and unexpected forms.
For mums, why not send Dad and the kids out on a Highlands adventure, and take in the Wine Experience? Every mum needs a bit of time out – especially during the holidays – and this tasting experience could be just the ticket. Watch a video on wine in Central Otago in Highlands’ own theatre, then have a stroll through their very own vineyard before the tasting experience – with Highlanders’ own Nose wine, made from their own grapes.
Bookings are essential, but Highlands is just waiting to make your family day out memorable. There truly is something here for everyone.
The people who own Highlands also own Game Over in Queenstown – which has a host of activites from arcade games to lazer tag. If the weather is bad, this is the perfect venue for a day of family fun.
