Ris­ing stars head to Wanaka

Cham­ber mu­sic’s Trin­ity Trio is Wanaka-bound.

Auck­land sis­ters Stella (vi­o­lin) and Sally Kim (cello), and their friend Tina Kim (pi­ano) are in the early 20s and were born in Korea be­fore shift­ing to New Zealand as chil­dren.

The Univer­sity of Auck­land­based trio de­scribe them­selves as ’’friends who love to play to­gether’’ and chose their name to re­flect their shared Chris­tian val­ues as well as the spir­i­tual di­men­sion of their mu­sic.

They won the pres­ti­gious Pettman Royal Overseas League Arts Cham­ber Mu­sic Schol­ar­ship, worth $50,000, in 2013. As part of their prizewin­ner’s tour they per­formed 12 con­certs around the United King­dom, in­clud­ing the In­ter­na­tional Ed­in­burgh Mu­sic Fes­ti­val.

Trin­ity Trio will per­form Mozart’s Trio in B flat ma­jor K502, Paul Schoen­field’s Cafe´ Mu­sic, and Brahms’ Trio No 1 in B ma­jor Op 8 in Wanaka. The con­cert is pre­sented by the Wanaka Con­cert So­ci­ety and Cham­ber Mu­sic New Zealand and sup­ported by the Queen­stown Lakes District Coun­cil.
