FROM THE NEWS DESK

Central Otago Mirror - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE -

Nominations for this year’s local body elections close on Friday and numbers are so far low.

That means that if you want to play a key role in shaping your community from the council or community board table in the next three years, then you need to move quickly and get your name on the list.

We all have plenty to say about our local roading issues, water, sewerage, the state of tourism and development. Sitting in an elected member’s seat gives you the opportunity to learn more about these things and help make the decisions that will determine your future, your family’s future and your community’s future.

You might wonder why people working in the news care about such things. We do what we do because we believe in democracy. And democracy doesn’t work without people bringing their ideas and thoughts to the decision making process.

The more diversity we have among our representatives, the better represented we are.
