Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes communities are being urged to get behind a national campaign to clean up the country.

Keep Alexandra and Clyde Beautiful group (KACB) spokesman David Beer encouraged people to get involved in Keep New Zealand Beautiful Clean-Up Week which runs from September 12 to 18.

‘‘Imagine our town where all of us care about and actively work to restore, enhance and protect our environment. That’s the vision of the KACB...It’s easy to get your club, local community or school involved. Keep New Zealand Beautiful Week is not just about the clean-ups. These events build and strengthen community spirit and allow people to demonstrate their pride in where they live.’’

Last year, nearly 80,000 volunteers helped during Keep New Zealand Beautiful Week.

To get involved people could go to the website and join an organised clean up event in a specific area. Or people could set up their own clean up group on the KNZB website and invite other people if they wanted to, he said.

For help registering an event or for those wanting to know what other community groups were doing contact the local coordinator David Beer on 021 024 091 63 or d.beer1308@gmail.com.
