Wanaka swim­mer Hamish McLean starts his week-long Rio cam­paign just af­ter mid­night on Satur­day.

His S6 50m freestyle heat is sched­uled for 00:46am (New Zealand time) on Sun­day, with the fi­nal at the more re­spectable hour of 8.44am.

He will be back in the pool for the 200m IM on Tues­day, Septem­ber 13. He is ranked 11 in this event.

McLean is a po­ten­tial fi­nal­ist in the men’s 400m free, in which he is ranked 7. That race is Wed­nes­day, Septem­ber 14.

The Mount Aspiring Col­lege stu­dent wraps his Rio com­pe­ti­tion on Sun­day, Septem­ber 18, with the 100m in­di­vid­ual med­ley.

Sun­day Septem­ber 11: heat 00.46am; fi­nal 08.44am; medal cer­e­mony 9.42am.

Tues­day Septem­ber 13: heat 02:10am; fi­nal 7.39pm; medal cer­e­mony 10.55pm.

Wed­nes­day Septem­ber 14: heat 00:30am; fi­nal 8.30am; medal cer­e­mony 9.24am.

Sun­day Septem­ber 18: heat 00:30am; fi­nal 8.30am; medal cer­e­mony 9.12am.
