Beef and lamb to give away
Six Queenstown, Wanaka and Central Otago restaurants are among a record number of entries competing in the 2016 Silver Fern Farms Premier Selection Awards this year.
Pitches Cafe´ & Restaurant, in Ophir, is looking to defend its title as best regional restaurant earned last year with a dish of eye fillet, beef cheeks and bone marrow.
Carrick is hoping for third time lucky after being a finalist the previous two years. The chef has created a duo of lamb - slow braised neck fillet, thyme roasted loin with spring vegetables.
The Wakatipu Grill was also a finalist last year and this year has venison loin and venison cheek dish.
Wanaka Bistro Gentil has a steak and onion dish featuring eye fillet, onion caramel, tempura shallots, smoked shallot puree, red onion relish, herb oil and black garlic jus.
Kika has created 72 Hour sous vide - beef belly finished with Kombu brown butter, charred leek white, pureed leek greens, colatura di Alici aioli and cabernet gel.
The Landing chefs have a beef shoulder tender, zucchini bread, bone marrow croquette, fermented tomato and horseradish cream.
The 73 entries from top chefs across New Zealand this year are available at restaurants from September 28 to November 6 and will be judged by experts over the same period.
