FROM THE NEWS DESK

Central Otago Mirror - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE -

News that construction of Frankton’s Eastern Access Route - newly christened Hawthorne Dr - will start this month is welcome.

The pressure has really gone on the Queenstown Lakes District Council and the New Zealand Transport Agency to do something to alleviate the pressure on traffic around Frankton and it is well beyond time we started seeing some action.

The airport has also announced it is constructing 50 more carparks but time will tell if they are used or many travellers will still opt for the free carparking in residential areas.

I am curious as to what progress Clutha-Southland MP Todd Barclay can make on having SH6 widened and getting rid of the roadside parking between the airport and BP roundabout.

The project is already on the NZTA radar and if it can be fast tracked that would be great but where are all of those people - mostly airport users according to an airport survey - going to park?
