Central Otago Mirror - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE -

Bring on the supermarket wars.

Even with the wider Central Otago community wanting to do their weekly grocery shop in Queenstown and a couple of million visitors a year, it is difficult to see how we can sustain a 27-check out Pak ‘n Save as well as Countdown, Fresh Choice and several New World supermarkets in the region.

It’s not my problem. In fact, I am looking forward to all these companies attempting to lure me into the shops with avocados and asparagus at jaw-dropping prices and extensive delicatessens with lots of free samples. Discounted fresh cut flowers work well also.

However, this weekend I imagine I won’t have much choice. My children are hoping to meet the stick man and support their friend Emily’s parents in their big flash new store.

So we will be shopping at Pak ‘n Save. But the next week and the weeks after that will depend on the prices and the experience. Do your best to win us over, supermarkets.
