Gar­dens on show

Open day to sup­port the up­grade of the Ran­furly Med­i­cal Cen­tre build­ing.

Fancy an idyl­lic trip through some of the best gar­dens the Man­iototo has to of­fer?

Con­sider get­ting a group of friends to­gether and head­ing on the self-guided Man­iototo Gar­den Club’s an­nual gar­den open day on De­cem­ber 28 be­tween 10am and 5pm.

Take a tour of nine beau­ti­ful gar­dens in the Patearoa, Styx and Puke­toi ar­eas, in­clud­ing Jane Fal­coner’s ’’gar­den of na­tional sig­nif­i­cance’’, Clachan­burn.

Clachan­burn is a ram­bling coun­try gar­den in Patearoa, Fal­coner’s web­site says.

‘‘The lawns and bor­ders roll grace­fully away from the house to two large ponds, with rugged hills to one side and the dis­tant moun­tains be­yond giv­ing an im­pres­sion of a lush oa­sis in the heat and dry of Cen­tral Otago.’’

Tour or­gan­iser Tracey Weir says the an­nual fundraiser will sup­port the up­grade of the Ran­furly

Med­i­cal Cen­tre build­ing.

Fea­tured will be younger gar­dens, more es­tab­lished gar­dens and drought-tol­er­ant gar­dens.

Raf­fles, plants and pro­duce will be for sale and a Devon­shire tea is avail­able.

The Patearoa Ho­tel is also putting on a ‘‘gar­den­ers spe­cial’’ of nib­bles and a glass of wine for $15 be­tween 2pm and 6pm.
