Gardens on show
Open day to support the upgrade of the Ranfurly Medical Centre building.
Fancy an idyllic trip through some of the best gardens the Maniototo has to offer?
Consider getting a group of friends together and heading on the self-guided Maniototo Garden Club’s annual garden open day on December 28 between 10am and 5pm.
Take a tour of nine beautiful gardens in the Patearoa, Styx and Puketoi areas, including Jane Falconer’s ’’garden of national significance’’, Clachanburn.
Clachanburn is a rambling country garden in Patearoa, Falconer’s website says.
‘‘The lawns and borders roll gracefully away from the house to two large ponds, with rugged hills to one side and the distant mountains beyond giving an impression of a lush oasis in the heat and dry of Central Otago.’’
Tour organiser Tracey Weir says the annual fundraiser will support the upgrade of the Ranfurly
Medical Centre building.
Featured will be younger gardens, more established gardens and drought-tolerant gardens.
Raffles, plants and produce will be for sale and a Devonshire tea is available.
The Patearoa Hotel is also putting on a ‘‘gardeners special’’ of nibbles and a glass of wine for $15 between 2pm and 6pm.
Tickets and maps can be purchased from More Than Books Ranfurly, Challenge Garage Ranfurly, Maniototo Hardware, Naseby Information Centre, the Naseby Store and from Cate
Herlihy at 1249 Ranfurly-Patearoa Rd for $10.
Enquiries: Tracey 0274726661 or Mary 034449453.
Young, established, and droughttolerant gardens will feature.
