Central Otago Mirror - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE - FAIRFAX REPORTERS

Newly-weds Richie McCaw and Gemma Flynn have shared the story of their Wanaka wedding in an exclusive interview with Woman’s Day.

The All Black legend and his Olympian hockey player bride wed at The Olive Grove in front of 170 family and friends.

A team of about 22 security guards surrounded the venue and ensured the media were denied any free shots of the couple or their guests.

The magazine has published the couple’s wedding album.

‘‘The main thing was that we wanted a very chilled-out day,’’ McCaw told Woman’s Day.

‘‘I think you can get hung up on it being absolutely perfect, but it doesn’t have to be all proper and perfect.’’

After the ceremony, the couple took a helicopter to the top of the Crown Range for a photo shoot.

In the photos, Flynn, 26, can be seen in a white custom-made Anna Shimmel silk satin gown and McCaw, 36, in a black Ermenegildo Zenga suit.

The Woman’s Day exclusive tells the back story to the famous couple’s relationship.

They met several years ago at a promotional event attended by both the All Blacks and the Black Sticks, and got engaged in Janu- ary 2016.

‘‘She puts up with my good and my bad,’’ McCaw said.

Flynn told Woman’s Day that McCaw ‘‘just has this effect on people - he makes people around him want to be better’’.

Sido Kitchin, editor of Woman’s Day said, ‘‘Richie and Gemma understood there was unprecedented interest in their wedding day, and made the considered decision to share their story because they value and appreciate the enormous support of Kiwi fans in their careers.’’

The magazine deal is secret, though it is understood to include a donation to charity by Woman’s Day.
