Central Otago Mirror - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE -

Regular readers will have noticed a couple of new columns in the Mirror in recent weeks.

One is the Our People column you will find on page 19 today.

Recognising and learning more about the backgrounds and cultures of the people who make up our communities is something we are pretty passionate about.

Already we have had stories from Brazilian mum Elaine Felix who lives in Cromwell, and Wanaka resident, Welsh rabbiter Billy Barton. This week we talk to the Queenstown family of Japanese woman Machiko Howick and learn how they utilise the favourite parts of their Kiwi and Japanese backgrounds in their lives.

We have people from so many different ethnic groups living in our region, and we are keen to meet more of you so please get in touch with your ideas and suggestions.

This is an opportunity to celebrate our diversity and learn from each other.
