Gym opening day approaches

Central Otago Mirror - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE - RHYS CHAMBERLAIN

It’s had a few setbacks but in a fortnight you can get fit at 2am or at anytime for that matter.

Cromwell’s new 24-hour gym, Central-Fitness, will have its opening party on February 19.

Owners Jonny Roberts and Alex Offen said they couldn’t wait to see everyone that had signed up, helped out and shown interest in the venture.

‘‘It’s been a long time coming,’’ Offen said. ’’We know people just can’t wait to get in here.’’

The couple had been busy renovating the space in The Mall; painting, setting up new equipment and ensuring everything was ready.

The couple initially hoped for a December 2016 opening.

The fact that the community had been ‘‘so supportive’’ and involved throughout the process was amazing, she said.

Offen and Roberts wanted Central-Fitness to not just be a gym, but a social space where people could meet regularly and get to know one another.

‘‘We’ve given it everything we’ve got and it’s kind of scary,’’ Roberts said.

‘‘I’m just looking forward to getting in with the people and helping them out.’’

The equipment was ‘‘pretty on point’’, Roberts said.

Gym users on opening weekend could expect sign-up specials, t-shirts, music and food as well as an induction and the issuing of 24-hour-a-day fob keys.
