QT leather artist invited to Milan Fashion Week

Central Otago Mirror - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE - DASHA KUPRIENKO

A Queenstown leather jewellery maker is going to Milan Fashion Week to present her work.

Contemporary jewellery maker Jessica Winchcombe said she was looking forward to presenting her leather and metallic art pieces to a Vogue editor and international jewellery critics.

‘‘You are just working in the shed, having a good old laugh at yourself, and then you get invited to Milan,’’ she laughed.

She was excited to be part of the ’’outrageous’’ Artistar Jewels exhibition at the Palazzio from February 23 to 26.

‘‘This is the first show I’ve been invited to that has nothing to do with people I know and I think this is why I’m so excited about it.’’

Over 130 international artists will showcase 350 creations. Winchcombe flew 30 pieces from Queenstown in November.

The exhibition was unusual because it would bring art and fashion together, she said.

‘‘That’s a boundary that a lot of people think should not be crossed, but I think it’s silly because jewellery is fashion and we wear it so it’s a really interesting show.’’

Winchcombe and her husband flew out to Europe on February 10 for three weeks.
