I have become concerned recently with the way the internet and social media are narrowing our focus.
Targeted advertisements are constantly in front of us suggesting products, companies and groups we might be interested in based on the websites we visit, the stories we read, our ages, locations and the interests we express.
I fear it is making our worlds more and more narrow, reinforcing the beliefs we already have and failing to challenge us and expose us to new ideas.
As we all become more inward looking, we risk losing empathy with our fellow human beings and an understanding of the world around us. I think there is only one answer. Books. We need to read more books - from when we are babies into old age.
