Trial dogs paws for smoko
Dogs weren’t the only ones in need of a rest at a recent dog trial in Tarras.
The club and community took on the ‘‘huge task’’ to shift and consolidate the dog trial grounds from Robert Gibson’s property at Malvern Downs to the ChapmanCohen’s Lindis Downs property.
Chapman-Cohen said the heading events had been held at Malvern Downs, while hunting had been held at Lindis, but due to a change in land use the club decided to shift both events to the Lindis property.
About 30 club members and the local community pitched in to help during the Tarras trial.
‘‘It’s quite a local and community event. We have a lot of locals help run the two days.
‘‘Because we shifted grounds there were a number of people who donated time and machinery. It was a huge task.
‘‘We had to build a new liberation tent and had to do a lot of digging and fencing work.
‘‘Without contributions from Young Earthmoving from Wanaka, Boot Everest Fencing, Upper Clutha Transport, Cromwell Transport, Forest Range Emmerson Family, Dunstan Contracting and PGG Wrightsons - it would not have happened.’’
Some will be travelling to Warepa for the South Island championships on May 1. The New Zealand championships are at Whangara on May 29.
