Trailbike riders have a rare chance to explore more than 100km of tracks over private high country farmland near Tarras on April 23.

Track organiser Grant Cagney said the Wanaka Trail Ride would offer beginner tracks through to ‘‘extremely advanced terrain,’’ traversing Deep Creek, Long Gully and Lindis Peaks Stations between Tarras and Wanaka.

‘‘A lot of people never get that opportunity to see out back of a high country farm,’’ says Grant, a veteran rider who has overseen all three editions of the Wanaka Trail Ride.

All proceeds will be split between the Montessori Children’s House Wanaka pre-school and Wanaka Primary School. Last year the event raised $28,000 for the schools.

There will also be a free, family friendly, foot accessed ‘pee wee’ track for junior and first time riders.

Food and drink will be for sale. Organisers strongly encourage riders to pre-register before April 19 on wanakatrailride.org.
